Unit 5: Promises, promises

Welcome back students!
This unit we are going to talk about New Year celebrations and also  about our intentions for this second semester.

To start, watch this video about Times Square in New year's eve...


How do you celebrate?

Here are the different groups, questions and links you can use for the oral evaluation. Remember the presentations are on Wednesday, July 31st, and you are going to have 2 classes to work.


1. The history of new year celebrations.

·         What is the oldest “New Year Celebration” recorded in history?

·         When was it celebrated ? What was celebrated?

·         What other important ancient civilizations celebrated New year?

·         When was the first time New year was considered to start in January 1st   ?

·         What is the Gregorian Calendar? Why is it important?

·         What interesting facts did you learn during this project? Why? (each person has to answer)

2. New year traditions around the world (4 traditionsà Hugging, Champagne toast, other two ). For each tradition provide a picture and the following information:   

·         Place where it is done (country-city -other)

·          Explanation of the tradition: procedure and what it is for.

Each person must answer:

·         What was your favorite tradition and why? (each person has to answer)
